I know February is the shortest month. It does not FEEL like the shortest month. In Cleveland, we get snain, snail, and snog. Basically, every kind of weather (apart from the very rare ray of sunshine) comes with the threat of maybe-almost-not-quite-wet-cold-snow. My back yard is a small lake surrounded by mud flats. The chickens are not pleased. Darwin… just plays in the mud. Anyway, I decided we needed a pick-me-up in March.
Heartbreak
Ok, ok—our first March show might not seem like a mood lifter, I realize. But trust me, it is! Florence Williams takes us on a scientific journey through the why and how of broken hearts, a personal journey into her own pain after divorce, and then out again to the wide world of hope and possibility. It’s a truly unique book written by a woman with a rare gift for gorgeous prose. It’s also FREE, and you can join us on FB or Youtube (see below for the links). AND we have a special guest! The book club You Should Try Reading (22K followers strong) is lending us their host and creator for the evening!
Extra Goodies
But I have more news. A number of you are brand new to our crew—hello and welcome! As you probably know, some of our shows are VIP only. It’s a way we can thank those who support us through donations, all of them very much appreciated. We do an annual member drive in December, and those who go for the once-a year (as opposed to monthly) subs get swag. This year, we had special hat/scarf combos made along with a goody bag of other peculiar things (buttons, bookmarks, stickers, smarties, happy feelings).
Well, I went through my inventory (erm, went crawling around in my attic), and we have 20 VIP packages left—soooo, I have decided to sell pro-rated memberships in March! Starting today and going to March 31, you can get a pro-rated membership for Mar-Dec of this season. AND if you type promo code NEWSLETTER, you get an additional 20% off. These are limited, so please hurry! Note: we have 20% off at our shop in March, too, link in FB and on out website.
And if you DO get one of these limited March memberships, I have even GOODER news:
Women Rock
It’s Women’s History Month in March, and on the 23rd, we are hosting Kate Kelly as a VIP show. She’s an activist, human rights lawyer, advocate for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, a member of the LGBTQIA community, and the host of the Ordinary Equality podcast. NOW the author of a book by the same name, Ordinary Equality: The Fearless Women and Queer People Who Shaped the U.S. Constitution and the Equal Rights Amendment. (You can buy a signed copy from our partner stores, Fox Lane Books in UK and Loganberry, US. Or if you already own one, let me know. I have some extra bookplates). Want to join us live? Be a VIP! Or catch us later on Youtube and our podcast.
Speaking of Women’s History Month… I will be hosting a series on my own substack (many of you already subscribe—it’s free) talking a bit more about the history and the present of women’s rights… and how not to lose more of them. I have also decided we need puppets for this. So the lovely dinosaur puppets from seasons gone by shall return for some comedy sketches. As is only proper.
Times can be tough. We want to make sure you keep smiling in the most peculiar way possible. Which is also why we make the cocktails.
